I first met Agustin Huneeus while searching for ways to expand the reach and impact of our nonprofit, the Prison Professors Charitable Corporation. Agustin, already deeply immersed in the world of business, had an impressive track record of building iconic wine companies and transforming family-owned estates into globally recognized brands. He generously took time to meet with me, offering insights and strategies to help me grow our mission.
Agustin earned his undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley and later completed a graduate degree in business at Northwestern. His began his career at a prominent private equity investor with a well-known firm, which sharpened his strategic thinking and prepared him to take on a leadership role in his family’s Napa Valley winery, Contessa. Through bold vision and careful planning, he played a pivotal role in launching and expanding several celebrated wine ventures, including Estancia, Faust, and Flowers.
One of Agustin’s most notable successes was his acquisition and transformation of The Prisoner wine brand. I learned a great deal from him, listening to his story of how he acquired the brand, developed it, and then sold it to one of the largest companies in the world.
Beyond his business acumen, Agustin has been an invaluable mentor, dedicating countless hours to guiding and supporting me. He has helped refine my ideas, connect me to potential funding opportunities, and shape a sustainable vision for our organization. His mentorship has not only enhanced my understanding of business strategy but has also reinforced my commitment to empowering people in crisis to realize their full potential.
Today, Agustin serves as a valued member of our board. I regularly seek his advice on how we can grow and maximize our impact. His expertise and guidance continue to be a source of inspiration as we work to help individuals unlock their highest potential.
