Accountability
To transform our lives, we need tools that allow us to measure progress. Those tools, which we call our accountability metrics, empower transformation. While serving 26 years, accountability tools helped me take full ownership of my actions. They kept me moving toward the milestones I had to work toward each day.

overview
Personal accountability tools help us measure progress. We can own our outcomes when we review our metrics, knowing that incremental success came from intentional decisions and actions that aligned with our clear goals. Use them to build discipline, especially during times of crisis. They keep us climbing to reach the next opportunity.
Foundations of Accountability
To create effective accountability tools, we have to know where we're going. By knowing where we want to be in five years, we can start to reverse engineer to hit milestone points along the way. In prison, I set specific goals I would have to hit in order to rebuild. Taking deliberate steps put me in a better position to succeed.
Measurable Steps
Every goal requires that we measure progress toward the action steps we take. I tracked daily habits, knowing that each step would help me climb from the darkness to light. With accountability tools, I could measure the progress, visualize results, and stay motivated to continuously improve over time. Anyone can build tools to improve outcomes.
Mentors and Accountability
With mentors we accelerate the path to success. Find the right mentors by showing you're intentional. Crete accountability tools and use them as assets that bring mentors into your life. When leaders see that we're taking deliberate steps, they become more inclined to invest in us. Experts will coach or offer feedback if they know our commitment.

Measure Transparently
Vague goals lead to vague outcomes. To really crush the goals you set on the pathway to success, break down each incremental step, and assign the time it will assign to take the step. If your accountability metrics include those time measurements and expectations for progress, the people in your network will push you to continue the climb.
Track, Adjust, and Repeat
Regular assessments help us assess what's working for us, and where we need to adjust. We cannot always control our environment, but we can always control how we respond. Accountability tools measure our incremental progress and inform us when we need to change our plans. These tools help when pursuing change over a sustained length of time.

Success Builders
Seek out mentors and build a support system that holds you to the highest standards. Prospective mentors respond better when they know you're on an intentional path to grow. The harder we work on ourselves, the more time people are willing to invest in us. Use accountability metrics to prove worthy of mentoring.
